Six Mile Lake, Ontario
My favorite Campground is Six Mile Lake, in Coldwater near Port Severn. Six Mile Lake is surrounded by and situated on the Canadian Shield. And, although located off a major highway in Ontario (highway 400), this campground feels like you have truly escaped the hustle and bustle of city life.
No matter the site or season, you really get the camping experience. There are various trails for hiking and sightseeing, multiple beaches for swimming and play and plenty of opportunities to rent boats and canoes for recreation or fishing.
One area of the sites available overlooks a picturesque swamp, without the overwhelming accompaniment of mosquitoes and other marsh related pests that you might expect. The park store is always easy to get to, and provides most anything you could need.
Water sources are abundant throughout the park, as are the washrooms, most providing flush toilets and running water. For the kids and family, there are often educational gatherings on current species in the park, some of which are rare.
The bird wildlife in the park is the most abundant species easily recognized and heard. My personal favorite is to gather by a fire, cook a hot meal and just relax. The more private sites offer an escape and tranquility.
For some, perhaps with an RV in tow, sites with electricity are located all through the park. Certainly a peaceful gem nestled amongst the scenic waterways of Ontario.
Six Mile Lake can be very busy in the peak season, so be certain to reserve ahead!
